In Alabama,Is it legal to cut employee's hours just so they will lose insurance/other benefits?

My husband works at a small branch of a bigger company. They gave him and one other person the choice to either quit and go through a temporary agency to work 40 hours (for less pay) or stay at the company and work 31 hours (part time). Because he is no longer considered full-time, he lost all the sick hours he had built up and lost insurance coverage. This company now only has two full time employees. My husband is the one part time employee. All other workers were hired through a temporary agency and given 40 hours a week with no benefits through this company because they are considered employees of the temp agency, not the company. My husband was working at this company at least 3 years before any of the temporary workers were hired. Is this legal??

Taking the current scenario in Alabama into view, the situation is such that the total numbers of adults within the age group of 19 to 64 who are uninsured have reached a considerable number. Well that accounts for around 19% of the total population of the state and that is quite an alarming fact.

Taking a stretch of 6 years into consideration, starting from 2000 and coming all the way to 2006, the rate of the family health care premiums have risen by a total of 80.7%. However, the rise in the rate of the family earnings is just a mere 13.1%. On the other hand, the premiums for the individual coverage plans have also risen from a $547 to a whopping $850 which is a decent rise by a 55.4%. Given these statistical details, it has become more than necessary and to a large extent indispensable for all the potential customers to carry out sufficient research. This way, it will be possible for them to find the most affordable and quality Alabama Health Insurance according to their needs and requirements.

By law, the state of Alabama does not need health insurers to sell the standard policies in the individual markets. However, as the insurance providers can design and plan various kinds of variant policies, hence it becomes more than necessary for the prospective customers to first thoroughly read and carry out a comparison of each of the Alabama Health Insurance plans with ultimate attention.

But then the state of Alabama does need each of the insurers to offer coverage for a few particular benefits which include,Charges and expenses for a stay at the hospital post delivery

Screening for breast cancer

Screening for cervical cancer

In addition, if you are a resident of Alabama, the procedure of medical underwriting is provided to you without any kind of restrictions. As a part of this procedure, the insurer also gets the chance to go through the customers’ detailed medical history. For the coverage requirements of all the pre-existing conditions, the insurance companies may often choose to look back at the entire medical health for the last 60 months. They are also given the provision to impose a 12 month period of exclusion for any of the pre-existing conditions.

What are the high risk pools?

The high risk pools are where you can find the high risk Alabama Health Insurance plans. In order to be held eligible for such coverage, the individual, first and foremost, needs to be a resident of Alabama. Along with that, the prospective policy buyer also needs to have minimum and continuous health coverage with no lapse for a stretch of 63 days at the least.

The various elements that are covered under the dimensions of the high risk health insurance are, all the prescription drugs, the expenses for all the visits to the doctors and other medical professionals, expenses for in patient or out patient treatments, maternity and delivery expenses, transplants and rehabilitation, x-rays and laboratory charges, charges of using durable medical equipment of the most complex kind and charges for substance abuse and mental health treatments.

However, this particular alabama health insurance is provided to them only if they do not have insurance at all or are underinsured.
What is Medicaid?

Medicaid refers to a particular joint program that is dually sponsored by both the State government and the Federal Government in the United States. This is a state sponsored Alabama Health Insurance coverage program that pays for all the long term care services and distinct medical services for pregnant women and children from the low economic backgrounds. This Alabama Health Insurance Plan also provides assistance to a few of the people who are under the watch of Medicare. These may include hospital and nursing home residents as well as disabled individuals.

However, in order to be covered by this program, all the individuals need to meet a few of the requirements as well as have a minimum income, which is a requirement for the eligibility parameter. These are,

For Children: For all those children who are between the age group of 1 to 5 years, they receive a 133% aid as part of the Federal Poverty Level. On the other hand, children between the age group of 6 to 19 years receive an aid of 100% as per the directions of the Federal Poverty Level.

For Pregnant Women and newborn infants: Pregnant women receive a 175% of the Federal Poverty Level while infants between the age group of zero months to 1 year get a 133% of the Federal Poverty Level mentioned.

Parents in the population: Parents in general who are not working anywhere get a 13% of the Federal Poverty Level while the working parents get 19%.

Other groups of the population: This category includes individuals who receive a supplement security income. These individuals get a total of 74% of the mentioned Federal Poverty Level.

Services that are covered within Medicaid

The Medicaid Alabama Health Insurance covers the following categories of medical treatments and procedures. Take a look:

Dental care

Eye care

Family planning

Prescription drugs

Renal dialysis

Visits to doctors and other medical professionals

Hearing care and check ups

Home health

Sanatorium and rest room facilities

Inpatient and outpatient hospital care

Laboratory and x-ray

Nursing home

Prescription drugs

Renal dialysis

Transplants and associated treatments

Transportation costs

Maternity and post delivery stay at the nursing home or hospital

Mental health and addiction treatment

Nurse midwife

Well-child visits

The Co-Payment structure in case of Medicaid

The co payments for this particular health care coverage plan range from a mere 50 cents to $3 at the most for all the official hands. The rates are also the same for the prescription drugs as well. On the other hand for every in patient stay at the hospital the patients are supposed to pay $50. However, no co payments are charged by this unique health care program if the individual in question is below 18 years of age or is pregnant. Co payments are also not calculated if the individual lives in a nursing home or a hospital or are receiving family planning services.

However, this particular alabama health insurance is provided to them only if they do not have insurance at all or are underinsured.
