Reader’s Question:

I have three words for you to think about in Huntsville, Alabama AL and that’s: cheap car insurance, any tips?

George

Huntsville, AL

Sounds too serious and too in demand. Cheap auto insurance is almost everybody’s dream. Sometimes it can be risky as auto insurance is about exposure and value. Cheap auto insurance is based on reducing the carrier’s exposure, which increases your limits in the process but are circumstances where cheap auto insurance can still be appropriate.

Auto insurance is typically composed of two components: auto liability insurance and auto comprehensive insurance. The former covers outside liabilities if you are at fault in an accident and can be the less expensive of the two components. If there is a lien holder on your vehicle, they will require you to carry liability auto insurance and you are required by law to carry comprehensive insurance.

Comprehensive auto insurance, on the other hand, can be more expensive than liability coverage since this actually covers you, your car and your family. This could also cover fire and vandalism and natural disasters. If you work it out and raise the deductibles, you are also increasing your personal exposure if you are in an accident and you will be responsible for the deductible amount before the auto insurance kicks in.

It is best to meet with an auto insurance agent in Huntsville, Alabama AL to be sure you understand all the implications of cheap auto insurance.

Reader’s Question:

I am a car collector and I’ve always had love affairs with vintage cars. I hardly drive my collections so I am wondering if I am overpaying for my car insurance policies in Birmingham Alabama AL. What’s there to watch out for in car insurance for collectors like me?

Brady

Birmingham, AL

Finally, I found a fellow car collector wary about car insurance too!

I agree with you, as I myself hardly use my vintage collections. If I do, it’s usually for short trips and on special occasions only.
The fact is, it is still important for you to have car insurance, but you might look into insurance that is tailored more towards collector’s cars instead. I can share with you some vital information on collector car insurance and how it could impact you positively too. You need to make sure that your car insurance fits your situation, because our situations might be different. Remember to treat your vintage cars like they need to be treated and make sure that you are getting good car insurance in Birmingham for them.

One thing that I opt to do is use a service that really gets what they are trying to accomplish. Some insurance providers in Alabama do not understand what we collectors want out of insurance for our vintage cars. Therefore, we do not get auto insurance that they can sue and it might end up hurting them. Make sure you take some time and find someone who can really help you with your collector cars in Birmingham, and a company in Alabama that will help you with your needs. You do not want to get any regular insurance in this new situation, especially for the cars that you love so much.

Reader’s Question:

Hi there! I know I have liability auto insurance and comprehensive auto insurance. Tell me about something called bodily injury insurance, please? What are the limits for this coverage? Thanks

Katie

Dothan, AL

Sure Katie,

Glad to help. In today’s litigious society, most states now require operators to carry auto liability insurance coverage and that includes Alabama. Different states set different minimal coverage limits. Bodily injury insurance falls within the scope of your liability insurance. Bodily injury insurance covers all medical expenses, hospital expenses and rehabilitation expenses for all parties injured in an auto accident.

Whatever the minimum bodily injury limits set by the state in which you reside will be the maximum amount of the bodily injury coverage in your standard auto insurance liability policy. Generally there is an individual limit and also a total composite maximum exposure figure. This is the bodily injury coverage available for payments to all injured parties.

These days many bodily injury policies are upgraded by policyholders. This is a topic to discuss with your insurance agent in Dohan, Alabama. He may cite some cases and statistics that will interest you. He will also furnish premium pricing for this additional bodily injury endorsement. Hope this has helped and remember to drive safely!

Readers Question:

Hello! It is not easy nowadays to look for an insurance company in Alabama that will give you assurance of stability and dependability. How will I know if I found the right one?

Birmingham, AL

Hi there Kimberly, your question is quite not easy to answer but I’ll try to give you some points on how you will know if that is one of the good insurance companies.

That’s true that is not easy to know if a certain company is good unless you will check the company’s background. You can ask some people that already have insurance; you can ask them what you want to know about the financial aspect of the company that they are in to. Knowing the capacity is important consideration when selecting a policy because how they will pay you, if you accidentally choose the worst one.

Check also the company’s rank, if they are on the list of the best insurance providers. Insurance companies are ranked based on their performance, so the highest they get the better for us to choose. These rating are done by independent company, to help the company improve their service and establish their name.

Always ask your agent in Alabama about the insurance discounts available to you and most of all try to go over your insurance policy, so if there things that you won’t understand you can ask the agent immediately. Some company gives a grace period of about 30 days after the policy was delivered to refund their insurance policy.

Auto Insurance Question in Alabama AL

Reader’s Question

I just bought a new vehicle in Alabama and I was required to buy at least the liability coverage of auto insurance. What is covered in the liability insurance and why is it the most important?

Anna Susana

Birmingham, AL

Thanks for asking, Anna

The liability coverage in auto insurance is required because it backs you up with financial obligation during accidents. In other words, the authority is saying, “Hey, you need to be responsible for any accident you may cause on the road so better get auto insurance at least with the liability coverage”. It is important in auto insurance because it covers the liability you may have when you injure someone on the road. The other coverage in auto insurance such as collision and comprehensive protect the car when it gets damage and it can be bought on top of the liability insurance. In essence, the very basic auto insurance protects people rather than things and for me, it is a good thing. But if you want to protect your vehicle for damages during accident, it is better to buy auto insurance with collision and comprehensive coverage.

The liability coverage can be used to pay the medical bills or funeral of the person from whom you are liable. It can also be used to pay lawsuits when the injured person sues you in court. To have full liability coverage, some would buy an umbrella policy in their auto insurance. This covers liability if the underlying basic liability coverage does not suffice. You can add umbrella policy in your auto insurance in Alabama only by certain parameter in your existing liability coverage.

Reader’s Question:

Hi! I would like to ask about car insurance since I have just purchased a car in Alabama. How is it different from other types of insurance? Gracie!

Marriah

Montgomery, AL

How are you, Marriah? Thank you for posting your question because it will truly help a lot. Many people were asking what is this auto insurance they are entitled to get.

Actually, auto insurance is the one that protects you against financial loss during times of accidents. It is an agreement between you and the insurance company which is supported by a contract. You agree to pay them the premium of your policy and they agree to shoulder your losses as stated in your policy.

Auto insurance provides coverage on property, liability and medical concerns.
- The Property coverage protects your car from damage or theft.
- The Liability coverage helps you in your responsibility once there is a bodily injury or property damage upon accident where you are the one liable.
- The Medical coverage is responsible in paying the costs of treating injuries, sometimes lost wages, rehabilitation and funeral expenses if worse come to worse.

Auto insurance policy is comprised of different kinds wherein each has its own coverage. I think you are required to have a car insurance in Alabama as the state’s insurance law requires that to all car owners. If you are financing cars, your lenders might also have requirements.
Most of the insurance policies are for six months to a year. The company will notify you once your insurance expired and it’s about time to renew the policy and pay the premium.

Reader’s Question:

I am just curious why my auto insurance premiums vary from my husband’s. I tried to check his coverage in Alabama and it provides the exact same coverage. Why is this so?

Annie

Birmingham, AL

That’s a very good question, Annie.

I own 3 cars, one for me, one for my wife, and another for my son who’s already in college. In the past, I used to get 3 different auto insurance policies for each car from different companies in Alabama. You are right in saying that rates vary from one company to another even if the coverage would be very much the same.

So why do auto insurance rates vary so greatly from one company to another? I had to ask too why shouldn’t my auto insurance rates be the same for all of my plans when they were providing the exact same coverage. My son’s insurance rate was the most expensive and was not even close to mine.

I had to read about the car insurance tier system. Apparently, many auto insurance companies determine auto insurance rates by a ‘tier system’, in which auto drivers are placed in one of their ‘tiers’. These tiers vary from one auto insurance company to another. One of my insurances had 14 tiers while the others had just two or three. Some have none. I learned too that most auto insurance companies have a 3-tiered system: drivers are classified as preferred, standard, or substandard. The classification would depend on factors like mileage, driver’s license status, driving history, any tickets and violations, or any auto insurance lapses.

After finding out about the tier system, I decided to consolidate my auto insurance plans under one company with the most ideal tier-system for us. That lowered my premium rates tremendously.

Hope that helps!
